no upgrade options as of yet, and isnt that a price hike?

ren_mem ( ) posted Fri, 12 May 2006 at 12:30 AM

They have all the upgrades. Type in carrara into the search. The prices are the same except for sale price and pc disount which make them lower. Nothing has gone up over what the original retail prices were. Plugins are also there w/ nice discounts for pc members.

So no $ 1.99 for PC members? Tsssss. :-)

I'm thinking the smart thing for Daz to do would be to wait until the $1.99 Hexagon 2 deal is over at the end of May, THEN have some PC deal for Carrara Studio 5.  This way, they can get an extra month of PC fees from people interested in both (like me).

I might just take your comment as a premonition and get the PC deal with Hex and just pay the $8 dollars next moth to see what falls. This is the main reason I have not gotten the Carrara Pro 5 upgrade, to me is just to much money for software that I have already been updating for years. I know that the feature set on C Pro 5 justify it's cost, but I simply do not have that kind of money at the moment. If I can get a discount, even a 20% that would help a bit.

Maybe. I think Dann Farr said it wouldn't be a 1.99 deal, but never say never. The prices are even better than any other sales they have had.

Didn't catch the other cross post. Well pc club members get 30% off on all original daz items.(Carrara, hex and plugins)

So... the Platinum Club deal makes it how much?  I've looked and looked on Daz's site but just can't find anything there about deals for Platinum Club members on Carrara, never mind any mentions of Plug-ins - couldn't find those at all.  With or without deals.

Help?

I just need to be able to find out the exact price before going to the checkout - in case I click the wrong thing by mistake and find myself suddenly paying for something I just can't afford.  (I'm inclined to do that sort of daft thing)

It seems to be £73.1707 for the Standard Version of Carrara 5, and £165.407 for Carrara 5 Pro.  I found out by using the Wishlist to find the total price after discounts, and then used Currency Converter to turn it into real money... ggg

I also downloaded the c5ProDemo version, so I can try it out first.

Thing is, I see that edge bevel and quick filit are mentioned as being in Pro but not standard - but as these are modelling tools wouldn't already having Hex2 mean that this is not an issue???

Also, the one other thing I wanted to know about is "ShaderStyle" just how good is it, and does it come with Pro already or do you have to buy it as a plug-in as well as the main program?

Yeah the c5 and c5pro are on sale, Then PC members get 30% off. You can always add to your cart or wishlist like you did or just take 30% off. Those are originals. Shaderstyle, AdvancePack, Architools are all 3rd party w/ no discount or voucher usage that I can see. They are one time purchases tho and the track record has been they update them for new versions at no additional cost. Vectorstyle2, Transposer2, Cadstyle2 are Eovia and you can use discounts and vouchers. TP2 and Cadstyle come with C5P. Yes, HEX2 is a better modelling tool. Having the tools in Carrara can be an advantage tho. TP2 is for use with Poser. Native supports Poser import w/o dynamics.

What about using Daz instead of Poser?  Does that work with Carrara or are we back to naked bald people?  (I hate Poser - come to think, I'm not all that fond of Daz either!)

DAZ Studio can with plugin export to a Poser file.  Carrara can import the Poser file, though without having Poser installed on your machine, it might not work....

If you have a poser character, you can import the geometry and shaders directly into Carrara without the use of Poser through the native importer.  Carrara has the ability to manipulate the characters, but it's a slightly more cumbersome approach than posing in Poser or DAZ.  But, since you dont' much like DAZ or Poser, maybe Carrara's approach would appeal more to you.  Who knows?

You can always download the demo (if DAZ still offers that) of Carrara and a free figure or two and give it a shot.

ren_mem ( ) posted Fri, 19 May 2006 at 9:02 PM

Native import has benefits, especially in this situation. Easier to tweak a character and save it in Carrara to use later. Then you can morph and apply poses etc.... Tho you can tweak layers list to drag and drop they are a nightmare to go thru.

If you are a Daz Platinum Club  member and own a valid Poser6, you can get Cararra 5 w/ a direct poser plugin for under a  100.00 usd ( you also get a $25 daz voucher).

BEWARE! Their download server is slow. It 's going to take me 24 hours to download the whole packeage and I have hi speed dsl. Hopefully, they will fix the problem soon.

I've been using the Carrara demo with a view to seeing if I like it - unfortunately I DO like it but have just discovered that I can't afford ANYthing for at least this month, probably another 3 or 4, I'll have to save up.  So I think  (unless I win the lottery in the next few weeks) that ANY software purchase is out of the question for some time to come... (sob!)
