Subject: Daz Carrara 5 download 14 hours and I have hi-speed cable.

drifterlee ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2006 at 3:49 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 3:51 PM

I just bought Carrara 5 bundle at Daz and it is taking 14 hours plus to download. I have hi-speed cable. It should only take about 15 minutes for 700 megs, if that. Did anyone else have this problem??

electronicpakrat ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2006 at 4:05 PM · edited Tue, 23 May 2006 at 4:06 PM

I've sent you a solution via PM to your DAZ account. Login there and let me know if it works (like it has for many others). 👍

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2006 at 4:21 PM

Sounds to me like a lot of people are starting to take advantage of the deal. It didn't take more than 15 minutes with my DSL connection, but I was there the first day downloading shortly after the email arrived.

Thank you so much Electronicpackrat!!!!!! Your method worked and I got all downloads in under 15 minutes!!! Hugz, Sherrie

Hi!

I bought the Carrara bundle on friday, havnt been able to download it yet as it arrives at 12 kb/s.

Today it topped at 40 kb/s so I gave it a try (Carrara 5 Application), after 3 hours and att 99% a powerfailure struck my neighbourhood (aaargh).

I dare not to think about getting the "Carrara Additional Content" as Im looking at 8 hours+ for that one.

Im on 8 Mb ADSL and my normal download speed at daz is very good but this one is really a pain.

So Electronicpakrat, if you have a magic solution, please light up my for the moment darkened spirit.

Regards / Jonny Bode

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

draculaz, you can check your DAZ PM inbox now. ;) *********************************************************** I guess I should mention the following before I get anymore crazy messages from people here. ATTENTION: The method I am providing will NOT work for anyone that hasn't actually "purchased" what they're trying to download. Furthermore, if the method was made public, it would likely serve to just further contribute to a mass server overload IMHO. 👎

draculaz ( ) posted Wed, 24 May 2006 at 8:42 AM

I read your thing over at DAZ. I guess it's just a simple hack that could help from time to time. Can't really test it as I was more curious what it was than needed to download anything.

Yes, it is indeed simple (which is a good thing). Hopefully, I'm not the only that realized how to do this. 😄 I received a few messages here (not forum posts) that were not from you draculaz or anyone else on this thread. I was told that I'm aiding piracy and I should stop. So, I decided to clarify things a bit.

draculaz ( ) posted Wed, 24 May 2006 at 9:32 AM

no, you're not aiding piracy, you're just changing a server with another. i'm not sure the daz people would appreciate it, and as a daz PA i think i should inform them so that they could at least analyze the situation, but as it stands, i don't consider it a rule breaker or anything.

Thank you Electronicpackrat!

I finaly got Carrara home, a program i paid for and not been able to download until now.

During the weekend I have posted at Daz forum pointing out the problem with the low download speed but I didnt get any positive responce, this proves they have the capacity to balance the load if they really want to.

Downloaded the Content CD as well but that Zip turned out to be corrupt, took me an hour to get that and I would have been slightly irritated if it had occured after the former 8 hour+ download time.

Shall try again tommorow, Thx again.

Well, I'm at 7 hrs and counting for my download. If electronicpakrat, you could tell me the secret to a much faster download I'd appreciate it to.

sculptn,

You have mail at DAZ. 🆒

InfoCentral ( ) posted Thu, 25 May 2006 at 4:50 PM

When I started the download at 4 am it stated it would take 12 hrs to complete.  At 6 I had to get ready to leave for work and it said that it would take 12 hrs to complete.  The speed just kept going down and down.  This was for the content file.  The Carrara file, which is approx. half the size, took only about 5 min.  I hope when I get home the download is compete.

electronicpakrat ( ) posted Thu, 25 May 2006 at 5:18 PM

InfoCentral,

If not, you can check your DAZ inbox and try again.

I have also purchased the Carrara side grade, but trying to download the content cd is impossible

last time i tried it would have taken about 15 hours.Surely some one at DAZ must realize there is

a problem with their download speeds.I have tried about 8 times to download the content cd

but have given up ,until something is sorted out.If  some has an easy solution to this i would be grateful for any help.

Having the same trouble downloading Hexagon.  What's the deal with DAZ?  Yes, they have some big programs they're selling; didn't they anticipate this when they bought Eovia?

It's really quite frustrating!

I purchased and downloaded C5 a week ago, at a blazing 10.5kps. It took about 24 hrs. for the whole package, with hispeed dsl. Now, tricks and hacks come in handy but they're no substitute for a company having proper server capacity.

electronicpakrat ( ) posted Wed, 31 May 2006 at 8:27 AM · edited Wed, 31 May 2006 at 8:33 AM

I'm sorry, I stopped subscribing to this thread. You can, however...pick the server you want to use. I've many happy people tell me how happy they were that they were able to download in minutes rather hours all because they switched servers. I did it and I've shown many other's how to do the same just for the asking. 😉 Although, it is true there is no substitute for a company having proper server capacity especially when they have the knowledge that they're going to kick off a large event which will likely set off a download stampede. If anyone is still having downloading issues (last day of the sale), contact me via PM on DAZ's site. I don't monitor these forums much or my message box (by choice) here so that will usually add delay to any response I might provide.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Wed, 31 May 2006 at 11:03 PM

Upon the first D/L attempt on my DSL line at home, the speed was glacially slow.   I was planning on letting it run overnight.   Then my DSL connection dropped out.

I tried again at the office the following day.  There, the predicted D/L time was something like 12 hours or so.......but the D/L timed out after about an hour.

I tried the 3rd time at home again.  Don't know why -- but the transfer speed increased greatly.  Both packages downloaded in under 3 hours.  I didn't do anything special to achieve this result.  Just the DAZ server finally kicking in, I suppose.

Now I've got Carrara 5 & Transposer 2.  I'm already a Lightwave user -- but I couldn't resist this deal at this price.  For the time being, I'm primarily looking at Carrara as an alternative Poser-scene renderer.

If I decide that I like C5 enough, then I'll consider upgrading to C5Pro.
