Well, there's a wealth of tutorials out there to make props, characters, etc.; it depends on what your skill levels are. There's modeling programs like Wings and Blender (both free), that you can create everything from helmets and shoes (about where I am..;) to complete characters (Quinlor has a good tut on character creation, for example).
Doc Geep has some very good tuts on many aspects of character creation, rigging (or boning), mats, clothing, etc. It's a really big subject, so it's impossible to cover all the bases here. This question comes up a lot (about 5 minutes after you can't find something you're looking for in freebies..;), so stand by for more specific answers.
