the modellers learnt on their own, by trial and error, from first principles. little or none of this stuff is obvious or intuitive. some of it is covered in manuals and books, like Phil's CD or deecey's book. they learnt how to do it by trying everything available to them in their modelling software, and by participating in forums like this, where people are available to answer specific questions and to test their products for potential flaws.
