Ok, here's my penny's worth; likes and dislikes of the gallery /site changes.
Likes: I do like the general look of the main gallery pages. I think the white background is ok. I'm glad to see the upload date has returned, rather than how many hours ago it was uploaded.
Dislikes:
Homepage and contact - when clicking on the artist's name you don't go to the Homepage anymore - we see the gallery and stats. It was better before - you could see the link to contact the artist or the gallery link if that's what you needed, together with their bio etc. Everything in once place was easier and quicker to navigate.
Having to zoom in on an image to see at correct size - it was better before when you just had to click the thumbnail preview in the main gallery to link to the full size. When time and effort have been spent creating the image I want people to be able to see it as it was intended. I would be interested to see how many people bother to zoom in - too many clicks to get to an image as it is intended - why?
Avatar space - is it really necessary to have these all over the place - it's ok in forums but why at the top of the image?
Comment space - I preferred the comment layout we had before - it was nice and quick to read ( again, why do we really need avatar space here? ) .
Stats, stats, stats - why do we need to see how many images the artist has and when the last one was uploaded. Generally, too many stats - have members really requested all this info? Too much information for just wanting to view or show an image in my mind. Maybe that should just be on the artist's homepage or something.
I know the Rendro team must have put alot of work into doing all this, and I know sometimes it takes a while to get use to change, but I really can't see the benefit of some of the changes. Can anyone enlighten me? If I have got any info wrong above, please someone set me straight.
Having said all that, I do still love this site and the community and appreciate the fact that the site is free. I feel though that the overall look is not as inviting as before, and I really hope that that does not deter others from joining or put current members off - that would be a shame. That was what set the site apart from some of the other large art sites that I have been too. If I would have just come across the site now, I wonder if I would have taken much notice of it or been very tempted to join.
I do hope the admins take some note of the complaints about the galleries from members, and maybe one or two changes could be made.
