I know it's always been a feature of this site. 

I still feel that you should get rid of the whole "who's online" function completely, be it on the boards, in the gallery, or in the "who's online area".

My experience with people sending me PMs as I describe above sent me a message because they saw my name in the "who's online" area.  "Acadia" shows up close to the top of the list, so it doesn't take much scrolling  to see if I'm online, and it's pretty easy to find my name on the boards since I'm a motor mouth, LOL
