I settled on the IrfanView program and the Polar Bear icon.  I still think it's garish (I like the standard windows default icons), but it's better than that flat red dead thing,  hehe.

I bought  "Icon Bank"  several years ago, which is an icon making program, so I'll try my hand at making my own icon and seeing how that works.
