What I mean by client-side validation is a piece of Javascript that runs when the user clicks the Submit button. Instead of directly submitting the contents of the form to the server, the Javascript will first check if everything on the form is filled out OK. If not, an error message will be displayed and the contents will not be sent to the server.

Two advantages: 

• The script doesn't force a page reload. So every bit of information the user entered is still on the form, the user does not have to retype everything
• If the form contents are not valid, no bandwidth is wasted - the contents won't be uploaded, the server will not have to examine and reject them. It lessens the load on both network and server.

This kind of script is pretty standard. Any programmer worth his salt can make it in just about no time at all.
