"The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the
absence but in the mastery of his passions."
Thanks for the welcome and gallery comments (those of you that popped in)
And the comments on my equipment list (unfortunately most of it isn’t mine just goes with the job)
And remember the most important thing isn’t whether you are professional or amateur/hobbyist, professional only means you get paid for it and has no bearing on your technical/artistic abilities, I have seen both amateur and professional work that I envy.
Gradually finding my way around, I assume from some posts the site has or is going through a major upgrade, so I probably find it easier than all you regulars
Just for a point of note since metering seems to be a big topic, the gallery shot was incident metered with a hand healed meter, that was possible because it was overcast with very even light (mother natures soft box) so the possibility of getting hotspots was minimal, if the light is constantly changing a reflective TTL meter is probably the better option as it is metered at point of capture.
If you have static subjects (say a rose) incident metering is always the better option over reflective metering, there are always exceptions, like wildlife especially birds always on the move as they may go into a bright area of the sky so incident metering is at best flakey.

Hello there Enola!!! :m_wave: Huge welcome!!!!
Well you already know how much i love your sheep. And now moving on, lol. That sure is some pretty impressive equipment you´re packing. You seem to be both talented and informative, and i´m sure you´ll be a tremendous resource with all your knowledge....as long as you´re willing to share that is.

isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is
supposed to be fire and brimstone?

A big warm welcome to you,Enola_G!
Interesting name you have.
Wasn't the Enola Gay the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima?
Interesting parents you have...lol.
Your 'arsenal' is admirable.I'm sure we'll all benefit from your contributions, here.
Welcome!

Let me add my welcome as well Enola. It is wonderful to have a pro photography join us here at Renderosity! :b_smile:

I think you will find that Enola predates the plane used to drop an A bomb, the origins are native American and literally translate to magnolia (flower) of course the name Enola Gay is steeped historically and is the subject of much controversy.

I understand your comment about the bit of red on the sheep’s back, and maybe it does detract from the shot a little, depending on your point of view, for me coming here is to post some of my personal work and to share. Perfection isn’t paramount and would rather have images that are realistic rather than images that are touched up to perfection, that is something that I have to do professionally, so not having to do it is a breath of fresh air.
Sorry if you think I am being a little obsessive about the postwork thing, sometimes I just like the images the way they were seen on the day.
Anyway thanks to all that have joined this thread, and that have commented, I will try to have a wander through the galleries (time is the enemy I’m afraid)

@ titmouse: I'm sure that Marlene didn't have one bit of insulting intentions when she wrote what everyone else thought. She's just being frank and funny. Enola will learn soon enough that we are a bunch of friends here, who are familiar and frank with each other, without ever meaning to insult or hurt. Your note, on the contrary, seems quite insulting to me, and intentionally. I hope you see the difference...

Then I'm glad I didn't see it, whatever it was...Thanks Doug.
And thank you Geert, for saying that...I appreciate that you 'got' it.
I thought I was being 'ironic'. Forgive me,sometimes I forget that the written word can be taken in a myriad of ways.Humor,it seems, can be particularly misunderstood across cultures...
My bad,'Enola'...
And 'titmouse'...I have nothing to say to you...because I don't know what you said, lol.

So now we can´t even joke around and be ironic? I thought it was extremely obvious that Marlene wasn´t insulting at all but only being her wonderful and funny self. And excuse me...but who´s mouse-tit anyway? How come there seem to be people lurking in the shadows that only come out as soon as they smell blood? And this is another reason why i´m done with this place. Have fun everyone....no wait...that´s now allowed anymore is it? :bored:

Oh Ok time out lol
Firstly I would like to say that I did NOT take any offence to what you wrote Margana, maybe not surprisingly I get a few comments along those lines, my reply was merely to add the there is more to the name Enola, and I apologize if it caused a rumpus.
Enola Gay was also a song in the 80’s “trivia”
I did not see the deleted comment, so I can’t comment on that, although leaving it in may serve to be a good lesson on how fragile text based communication can be. It lacks the finesse of real conversation.

I currently have two images in my gallery so not sure why you can’t see them. The top of my equip list is company owned, so no outlay on my part, I can’t afford all that nice stuff! (shame)
Anyway the best camera in the world can still capture poor images, who is behind it is what makes the difference.
I haven’t got a personal web site, and with the amount of gallery sites etc I’m not sure I need one.
Only my personal work can be used as my employer owns the copyright to anything I do on their time. None of which is available online. The guidelines are strict.
Valouchufy
I don’t know if I know Simon_P, I knew a photographer called Simon a few years back, and he encouraged me to take up photography professionally, and taught me a few good lessons/techniques with the camera etc,(stuff you don’t learn at university) not seen him for some time. So who knows the web makes the world a lot smaller.
Anyway places like this are R and R for me a sort of escapism form the real world lol, so I can upload images that mean something to me rather than technically perfect or for money.
I might even get round to scanning some negs in time!

Oh, I know! I know! ::raises hand:: Enola Gay was a song by OMD (Orchestral Manuevers in the Dark) and actually one of my favorites by them from that time period: "Enola gay, you should have stayed at home yesterday Aha words cant describe the feeling and the way you lied These games you play, theyre gonna end it more than tears someday Aha enola gay, it shouldnt ever have to end this way Its 8:15, and thats the time that its always been We got your message on the radio, conditions normal and youre coming home Enola gay, is mother proud of little boy today Aha this kiss you give, its never ever gonna fade away Enola gay, it shouldnt ever have to end this way Aha enola gay, it shouldnt fade in our dreams away Its 8:15, and thats the time that its always been We got your message on the radio, conditions normal and youre coming home Enola gay, is mother proud of little boy today Aha this kiss you give, its never ever gonna fade away" Anyway, that doesn't have much to do with anything, other than illustrate that though our focus is photography, we still try to have a little off-topic fun from time to time. We whole heartedly welcome anyone seeking a little escapism from the real world. I just made my comment about the color on the fur because I could not find any other area the image might need improvement. As I said, a great shot. Your latestest one as well, it really puts you right up there next to the duck with excellent lighting and clarity. I look forward to seeing more of your personal work and having you participate in the forum threads...time permitting of course.

To complete it (trivia): Enola Gay was the name of the mother of the commander of the plane that dropped the first A-bomb on Hiroshima. The commander painted his mother's name on the nose of the plane. So now everyone thinks that Enola Gay is the name of a plane LOL. And if I'm not mistaken, the 'little boy' from the song by OMD was the code name for that first A-bomb... Right?

I found it....I went through the uploads from yesterday and found your images a DUCK and a SHEEP....I was really curious to see who is behind that lovely name.....
nice duck....love the colours.......I bet he had fun in the water.....hope this is the right link
I will keep an eye on it.....look forward for more!!!

Thank you,Enola.I assure you,no apologies are necessary.
You have a point, maybe if 'it' were left it would serve as an example of how incredibly misinterpreted text-based communication can get.
Anyway,I'm enjoying all the 'Enola' trivia.I knew about 'Little Boy' but not about the pilot's mother,or that song.Interesting stuff.
Once again, welcome.I hope you'll find your time spent here,to be rewarding and enjoyable...regardless of the occasional 'titmouse',lol. ;^)
