Actually if you read further on their site it clearly states that the program will attempt to access the internet on a regular basis checking for your updates that you get for the first year. You must have access or it will choke again every time it checks for updates so yeah, you need a regular internet access to use the program. Hopefully they'll fix that with an update if enough folks complain.
