So i Got VF .I got 2 PCs .One for Internet and one for 3D-Stuff.Does this mean my 3D Pc MUST have an Internet connection in order to run the full mode VF?I hoped to exchange my registriering datas in a seperate file via my Internet PC.

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Thu, 29 June 2006 at 12:25 AM

HMMm....It seems to run okay without registriering....hm why a serial number when there is no need to?

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Thu, 29 June 2006 at 12:34 AM

If you haven't gone to their registration site yet you need to gone ASAP or you won't be able to use it after 10 hours. The serial number is what you enter in to get your activation code from their website. This directly from the CP Forums:

Once you complete your purchase...

Go to: http://www.virtual-fashion.com/html/en/register.php.

Enter your serial number ( Serial Code can be found on your Order Details in you My Stuff section of CP and in the Order Confirmation E-mail sent) and Security Code as displayed on the VF Web Page along with your valid email address.

You will then be directed to a page where you enter a username and password. Once completed you will be given an activation code.
(A confirmation E-mail will be sent to you upon completion).

Once VF has downloaded and been installed, launch VF, go to the VF Resource Manager and enter your activation code, username and password (all of which are case-sensitive).

Your product is now activated.

Note: an Internet connection is required to validate the activation code. If you do not enter the activation code within 10 hours of use, the program will cease to function, so we recommend you do it immediately.

Does this mean you can't use it on a machine that is not connected to the Internet?

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!! Forget this post. This bldy program doesn't accept my activation code because there is no Internet connection.......F*!!!!! .----calm tüdelüdelü....Dear Programmers,Please keep in mind that there is at least one person in this world ,who just wants to play  with nice little 3D apps and doesn't give a damn about this big super fantastic world wide web stuff. The only reason why I got an internet access are communities like Renderosity ,DAZ and CP to get content  and have exchange with all the other 3D-hobbyists out there. To make it clear : IT'S ME WHO DECIDE WHEN CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET ---NOT YOUR APPLICATION.If you decide to make a product activation necessary then let me do it from a seperate computer.Sometimes I think this world has gone crazy .People who buy a fast 1500 Euro machine just for web-dating ,e-bay and buying song on web portals that are played on radio stations all along anyway.

Yeah, after I got burned by Autodesk on Motionbuilder and their decision not to provide activation on a product I purchased I decided not to buy any software with internet activation.  I don't mind dogles but activation for me is a no buy.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Thu, 29 June 2006 at 5:49 PM

Actually if you read further on their site it clearly states that the program will attempt to access the internet on a regular basis checking for your updates that you get for the first year. You must have access or it will choke again every time it checks for updates so yeah, you need a regular internet access to use the program. Hopefully they'll fix that with an update if enough folks complain.

I allways felt bad about activation, but  for ex. Reiss BodyStudio I was allowed to save registrier data to disc ,put it to my Internet-PC ,got  my activation code ,put it back to my 3D-PC et voilá it's done. Why can this not be made possible in VF.Theire Support told me that VF will stop working someday without activation.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Thu, 29 June 2006 at 11:56 PM

If you haven't activated it within 10 hours of installing it it will stop working.

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Fri, 30 June 2006 at 12:03 AM

They say :checking for updates . That's totally ridiculous .It's me who is checking for updates not my software.Doesn't it sound a little bit like phone home?

I will contact Content Paradise.Maybe I have a chance for refund.

InfoCentral ( ) posted Fri, 30 June 2006 at 2:19 AM

What is irritating is when they say that they are not going to support your version anymore and if you don't upgrade and spend some real $$$ your software will cease as they are also not going to reactivate it anymore either.  That's what Autodesk did with MotionBuilder and they dropped the Standard version at the same time.  Now they tell you you have to choice of getting a special deal to purchase the Pro version for $3,000 or kiss the software you bought goodbye!

I also had some software from some companies that went out of business.  There goes that software and $$$ goodbye as well...

-Timberwolf- ( ) posted Fri, 30 June 2006 at 7:56 AM

Ohoh,I have an old MB 5.5 Standart and I recently upgraded my complete Hardware.I guess they won't reactivate either. All those filesharing Kids will laugh about us legal buyers because of that.

It certainly builds a legitamate case for it. I think that it is going to be harder to win cases against the community of code breakers who state that they are only doing personal back up.  There seems to be now a very legitamate reason these days with activation not being done and users left with software or no sofware working anymore.

mickmca ( ) posted Sun, 02 July 2006 at 8:42 AM

I will not purchase a program that forces me to give it on-demand Internet access. I don't care what it is. There are very few programs I need, and VF certainly isn't one of them.

I am sick of bloated software companies assuming that the average customer is just as ethically impoverished as they are. We expect others to be like us, so liars think we all lie, child molesters think we all lust after children, and software companies think we all want to rip people off.

Now here's an idea - note that I haven't tried it yet so so far it's just a theory, but...

I installed my VF on an external Harddrive. The one that holds all my Poser stuff. I use that HD on my laptop as well, since copying all of my Runtime folder to that one would effectively fill the Harddisk (at least almost)

So now I'm curious if I can use VF on my laptop when I'm somewhere where I do NOT have an internet access? Since it's activated and all...

Or does it check to see if it's still on the computer it was installed on? Something in the registry perhaps? Hmm and I wonder what happens if I install in on the laptop while it's online...

I don't like this activation thing to say the least, and I'm honestly looking forward to a ..er... uhm... little code snippet from someone to make that activation thingie void. It will happen, I'm fairly sure. It happened with Poser 5 as well. And no, I'm NOT condoning warez, but it seems idiotic to me that I can't take the computer with me in for instance a train and use my paid software, just because there's no internet available...

I have all my runtimes on an external 250 Gig HD now as well. On top of that I've got all my other 3D content there. I've got the whole drive mapped across my network to the same drive letter so I can open my PZ3's on any machine and they still find the correct paths to their related geometry and texture files.

It doesn't check for internet access every time you run it, but their site does say it "Periodically" checks for updates and will pop up a warning if it's checking and can't find the net. They don't say how often that "Periodically" period is though.
