Exclamation marks are used to denote emphasis, strong feeling or surprise. The spacebar is for spacing.

So as you can see, it's not just me who finds it irritating to the point of getting a headache.

Lay off the shrieks and everything will be cool. It's not like you can get banned for misusing punctuation. (Otherwise it would be very quiet around here, and also I'd have to ban myself, heheh.)
