Subject: I'm haveing a problem with BVH files

When I import a BVH file, more often than not, the BVH file suddenly causes the figure to be raised a few inches(to scale) above the floor. Now, rather than having to drop the figure to the floor for every frame is there away to reposition the entire animation, in an easy step, with out destroying the other animated portions of the figure? I'd really appreciate some help on this. I spoke with Metcreations about this. I asked if yhey allow us to reposition the x and z axis of the ground plane why couldn't they do that with the y axis. They said it was not possible. Somehow I don't believe that. Seems like it would be easy to incorporate and not have it alter true axis points of animations or anything. pjanak@bellatlantic.net

Okay, Here's the skinny on BVH files... First, open up the Keyframe Editor. You'll see that every part in every frame is Keyframed. BVH does this when imported... What you'll have to do is delete the Body Keyframes (all of them) and move the body to ground level in Key Frame 1. But then you'll have to ALSO make the body move as it had done in the original Anim... In the end, you're MUCH better off dropping the figure to the floor in each frame.

A quick way of dropping the character down in each frame, is to step forward one frame at a time, pressing Ctrl+D after you advance each frame. Or you could try creating a NEW Ground plane from the "square" in Props/Prop Types, rotating it and adding the same texture map as the ground. Just a thought! :) Dave.

Better still, Click on the figure's hips, open the graph pallet, set the parameter as y trans, make sure that all frames are visible in the window (You can drag the edge of the slider at the botom to fit all of the frames in) click and drag in the graph window to select all of the frames (Not an easy task, maybey they'll add a "select all" button in the future) then put your cursor over the highlighted frames, hold the ctrl key and drag the frames down until the figure is on the ground. This moves the whole figure without destroying the animation. Good Luck! Chris
