Autocad, the (almost) original Computer Aided Design program (I think that's what it stands for..;) has been around at least since the mid-80's. Last version I saw was 14.

A lot of 3d modeling programs take a page or 2 from autocad, and a lot of the commands you use owe their parentage to that. It's mainly used for making blueprints, walkthroughs, etc., or was back in the day. Mike and Sharon Custer of Sam's 3d use it to make their stuff.
