Bentchick, I too would love to capture that light.  I believe some is postwork, whether wet darkroom or digital.  Still, the original must have the right light to start with with empahsis here and there. Yes, totally agree...the artists you mention are to aspire to being even close to..in their shadows would be pretty pleasing to me.  I do hope you someday find one of your grails fulfilled.     Tom.
