Just to add, there seems to be little problem with supporting non-English, but European, Alphabetics - tildes, carets, and accents.  I would as much complain about seeing "hasta manana" as sumo!  Proper names, one supposes, can be forgiven as the association, incorrect or not, has already been engrained.  But I will always write it Tōkyō. ;P
