Subject: How to Make Custom Brushes Be "In Front" of Each Other???

PaganWarrior ( ) posted Wed, 09 August 2006 at 2:50 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 1:37 PM

I'm trying to make an image using some custom brushes of rocks, trees and the like.

But even though the brushes are all on different layers, you can see each brush beneath the the brush on top of it.  It is like they are too transparent.

Is there a way to solve this?

Thanks

You can either duplicate the layer or enable your airbrush but you lose some of the details the more opaque you make them.

So I can't really combine these brushes I bought to make background scenes for my renders?!?!?

dreamer101 ( ) posted Mon, 14 August 2006 at 10:07 AM

Yes you can. I'm just saying that if you find the brush too transparent then you need to make it more opaque. The Airbrush being enabled allows you to make it more opaque. If you make it too opaque there may be a loss of some of the finer details in the brush.

OK, thanx.....um, how do I enable the airbrush while using a custom brush?

(sorry for being such a noob)

Same way you would with an ordinary brush. ;)  Click the arrow pointing down on the top of the toolbar next to the brush symbol (this is assuming you have CS, I don;t know if it's the same with the other versions).  This brings down a drop-down list.  Select the one that says 'Airbrush 50% flow'.  Then change the 50% in the flow tab to 100%...and....tada! ;)

Or just click the Airbrush icon at top when Brush Tool is selected. You can play with Opacity and Flow as well.

Oh yeah, forgot about that button.  Doh! lol!

PaganWarrior ( ) posted Tue, 15 August 2006 at 10:02 AM

I still didn't get it to do what I want, but thanks for your help.

PW, have you tried changing the colour of the brush or the background colour?  Some brushes are designed to be used 'white on black' (or any other light colour on a darker surface) or 'black on white' (again, any other dark colour on a light surface).

I made this image with purely brushes, but I had to have the background black and the brushes white for them to show up properly (except the trees, they were black brushes) - I had the same problem as you:

Now THAT is what I'm talking about!  Excellent image!

I'll try playing around with color.  Thanx again!

Thanks!  And no problem.  Hope it works!

PaganWarrior ( ) posted Sun, 20 August 2006 at 2:13 AM

It is working much better now I am adjusting the color of the background.

:)

Good, glad that helped.  Sometimes it really is as simple as changing a colour. ;)
