Yeah MungoPark beat me to producing the link - took me a while to find it in my bazillion bookmarks.

The node that isn't shown is just a photo of some buildings with a lot of open ground and sky.

The way the reflect node works, is that it will render a reflection of whatever is in your scene, but if the reflection ray travels off into infinity, it plugs in a value from the background attribute. If you leave that white and don't connect it to anything, then it returns white, which is not what you want.

So plug in a photo of distant trees or buildings or whatever. Any nearby objects in the scene (like a hot chick) will show up in the paint. Otherwise it will reflect an imaginary surrounding from the photo.

Of course the best thing to do is really put objects all around the car.

When carmakers produce an advertisement, they usually set the car up in a studio with carefully placed white and black objects in the area. This works in Poser too, although it takes a while to set up. But these objects will really highlight the contours of the car.

Just put black in the reflection node background color. Then place a big white rectangle overhead, and maybe some white spheres and such in different places.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
