I cant say that there was much improvement in P6, but the cosmetic work does help and make things look better (still hate the artifacts from caused by some lights and objects)
I hope there is more improvent in P7 over P6 than there was from P5 to P6 Global illumination and radiosity etc.... and some sort of render farm ????? put some use into my other computers and maybe a quad core 64bit version????
Have you checked out Vue 6? Particularly with V6I, you get -all- that and more. Plus the new version coming out is advertised as importing the Poser shader tree effects as well. Poser does what it does well, but you really need an external renderer if you intend to do animations, and the best out of the box at the moment is Vue. OH yeah, V6I is going to be both 32 and 64 bit, and has been multiprocessor aware since V4Professional. And the network render system is nice....
