Anyway, if you own Max and want to try shrink wrap, here is the deal: Build your mesh, pick Compound Object from the top menu bar, pick conforming object (the second icon), go to the roll out, pick conform along vertex normals, try a 1.0 offset and 5 or 10 distance, then pick the "conform to" object. The result is a compound object, you can break out the original by converting to a mesh object, go to element level and pick the conform-to item and delete it. Here is a top I'm working on that was conformed, notice how I allowed for the details in th emesh, this isn't a cure all, don't we wish it was!
