An alternative you may want to try... Arbaro. A freebie from Source Forge. It can create incredibly realistic trees (and other plants) and can export them in .obj format. You'll have to texture them yourself, tho..

WARNING - Arbaro trees are VERY poly heavy (each leaf is a separate object, not a picture applied to a 2D plane) so only use for the very nearest trees...
Also, you'll need Java to run it..
