In North America  much of the territory permits sexual acts of adults on children 14 years of age, most areas permit sexual acts by adults on children 16 years of age, and only a few jurisdictions restrict adults to engaging in sex with children 17 years and older.

In places where sexual acts of adults on "children" under 18 are permitted the "children" under 18 are not considered children (by law at least).
