Anticipate? Participate? Well, we don't have to like the work that everyone shows in the DITI threads, everyone is free to have their own opinions of course. We do of course encourage people to be civil, polite and constructive with their criticisms if they have any. I do believe the original intention of the DITI threads was to take an unretouched image and improve it however you saw fit, but mainly through postwork that didn't actually change the original image's intent. However, it has evolved into its current state and I think it is a healthy way for the members to excercise some creativity. If someone wants to post an image an wants feedback on how to improve it without wild alterations, all they have to do is say so.
