A follow-up to my previous post after an evening spent testing this technique. Two points to make:

  1. Exercise caution, and always work on copies of your original CR2 files until you're confident of what you're doing.

  2. It works.

The 'Replace in File' utility is a pretty neat freebie. It remembers the Find / Replace parameters to enter, and the folder paths. If / when it finds a match for replacement, it makes a backup of the original (same filename plus a .bak extension). If a backup already exists, it doesn't create another. It gives rudimentary feedback on what it's found and replaced, and tells you when it's finished.

CR2 files amended this way load up with IK off, but only if that was the setting when they were originally  saved - otherwise, turn IK off and resave the CR2. If you want IK on, you just turn it on, and it works as it should.

I couldn't find any problems with conforming clothing, hair, poses, parented props, or, in fact, anything behaving as it shouldn't. I don't use cloth or hair simulations so I can't verify that there are no problems with these.

I've converted all my custom CR2s using this method, and put the backups onto CD - just in case.

Hopefully E-Frontier will at least make this IK thing an option in General Preferences in the next version of Poser to save all this messing about.
