Sometimes fractured syntax is deliberate -- as a matter of style, or else to emphasize a point. People who are quick on the uptake can usually catch that. But others -- more.......uh......literally minded -- occasionally get the idea that the words need to be taken at face value. And that can lead to some misunderstandings. Or to no cognizance of the humor involved.
