the modern elevator... could never have happened unless the guy that devleoped a way to bore a hole in a steel rod to make an accurate rifle was around, an english guy i think......without him the steam engine water powered piston....would never have functioned efficiently enough. from that precision in drilling came water pumping and the industrial revolution all of which would have been non starters with no elevators no breaking systems worth a damn and no communication systems.....mind you we wouldn't have all the wars and guns we have to day either lol
