It's not a very well researched problem. There are some premade animation files at DAZ for the P4 horse, but mostly at a gallop. If you search for "Muybridge," there are some multiple frame images that you can use for reference, but the general answer to your question seems to be you'll have to do it all by hand and just keep tweaking it until it looks right.
