Subject: (OT) Awesome Live Water Hole in Africa

I finally managed to get another screen capture.  There were some great views of them drinking and standing by the water, but by the time I managed to get a screenshot, they were already in the trees eating. Here is one

haha, there is something at one of these links that is making the cutest sound!  Not sure what it is. It sounds like a growling/cooing sound, hehe

Attached Link: Africam Google Earth placemarks

For anyone that uses Google Earth, here are some Google earth placemarks. The zip contains 3 of them, one is the warter hole, one os the tree that the cam is mounted in and one is the nearby Nkorho Bush Lodge.

Here's a warthog, being a typical pig, lying in the mud.

For some reason the fraps program only works with the Africam one, not the RealPlayer one.

Yes, fraps only works with africam, it might be something to do with the way the videos are displayed.

Acadia ( ) posted Thu, 12 October 2006 at 3:24 PM

hehe, those wildebeest don't know what to think of that warthog!  LOL

These sites are totally addicting. I love watching the nature shows about animals in their habitat.  But this is so different because it's not pre-recorded video.  it's awesome to be able to see it happening totally live.  It's like looking out my window and having a whole wildlife sanctuary in my back yard.  I think that's why it's so amazing and so addicting because it feels like you are there.

It looks like there is something wrong with the africam camera, it was pointed at grass and seemed to have some dirt on the lens and it switched off.  Hopefully it is just the lens that needs cleaned and it will be back on later.

I agree, this is addicting...me and my girls are having a blast watching this for the very reasons Acadia said above..its live. and feels like you are there....I find myself hollering at the camera operator sometimes saying..."Oh! pan the camera, you're gonna miss that shot!" snicker

Vince3,

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the quote should probably be: "Mommy, why are all those people looking at us?" Elephant societies are matriarchal. Great shots though.

I watched a three little pigs cartoon the other day, the pigs all looked like porky pig.

There's a free version
the difference is that the free one will only let you save the screenshots as bmp's. the pay-for one will let you save them as jpgs and png's too.

You can also, using the free version of fraps, save the video as an avi then select the frames you want and save them in any format that you want.

You're welcome :)  The birds chirping is very restful. I can't say the same for the choir of bull frogs late at night though, LOL  After listening to them for a few minutes I need Tylenol and a nerve pill,  :P

But there is something about actually seeing these beautiful animals live across the world from your living room that makes it so different than just tuning into a taped animal show.  It really brings it home to you and feels like your own backyard.  I wouldn't get anything done if I lived with something like that in my backyard. I'd be glued to the window and camera and probably have a mini fridge, cooktop and port-a-potty near so I would miss a thing,  LOL

I say we all save our money and have a Renderosity meet up there :)
