The poor memory management claims come from those people who don't understand that they can't load 20 GB of image, program and object data into an application that uses the regular Windows32 memory management. They want Poser to have its own memory handling - like that's something every application has... Oh, and the render speed difference you mention hasn't anything to do with memory management but rather the different renderers used.
