Subject: Parenting Lights

Shadow_Fyre ( ) posted Fri, 29 September 2006 at 1:40 PM · edited Mon, 05 August 2024 at 8:55 AM

I am trying to move and rotate a group of lights but after trying parenting the lights to an object and to themselves, I can't do it.  I'm pretty sure I have seen lights in groups that can move together, but I don't recall how or where or what. Does anyone know how to do this?

edited: Just to clarify, I'm using P6.

search for ockhams p5 light panel. must be somewhere in the freebies. an excellent little tool for p5 - dunno whether it works for p6 too, youd better ask the maesto for sure.

Yes, it works for P6.

http://ockhamsbungalow.com/Python/LightPanel7.zip

You can certainly parent lights to an object for this purpose.

One caveat, which probably doesn't concern you in this case:

You can't save the resulting combination as a prop or figure.

If you want to have lights parented to a prop or figure 'packaged'

together, you have to edit the CR2 or PP2 by hand to get the

lights in there!

Awesome! That worked great. Thank you very much!

I actually had that  python script in my folder but forgot all about it, and also it must have been an older version since this one overwrote it, so thanks for that ockham, lol.

I have a question on parenting lights: whenever I have tried to parent a light to a figure (in P6), it seems that the light moves. Ie., as soon as I parent the light, it jumps from its desired position, before I move the parent figure. Is this normal?  Does the Light Panel get around this problem?

This looks very useful but I can't get this script to work.   "Input file not found".
                                                                                                      "Exception in Tkinter call back"
Any suggestions.

could it be I don't have something installed?

Thank you

Are you using a Mac ?
If so, then your out of luck, as scripts that use a tkInter based GUI won't work on current versions of Poser (there has been a hint that this will change with P7).

No.  I am not a MAC user.  I moved the scripts into the proper script directory and am now getting different errors. ::perplexed shrug::

Thanks for your concern

Which version of Poser are you using ?
Does changing just the colour work ?

The most important thing to report from the error mesages is the line numbers, but you can copy and paste the whole message from the window, just click and drag the mouse to select and then use Ctrl-C to copy the text.
