...O.K., Wabe- what you are saying sounds a LOT like the PhotoShop scheme- which is fine with me... They require you to call an AUTOMATED NUMBER which asks for your PhotoShop Machine specific ID (however they generate that?) and then the Voice Computer tells you the numbers to input into the software... and then you are FINISHED! ...it takes about 5 minutes, at least...
I have transferred my copy of PS 8 at least 5 times this way...I think Adobe gets suspicious if they were to see you transferring this REPEATEDLY over a very short period of time- but I've done it over a 2 year period without a problem... BUT I've heard that Microsoft's scheme REQUIRES an internet connection- and allows only 1-2 times for re-installation before sutting down your OS..don't really know FOR SURE if this is how they plan to do for VISTA...
The thing about the PhotoShop deal --at least because ADOBE is a BIG COMPANY- they can set up this nice license transfer feature using a touch-tone phone and/or computer voice... WILL E-on be providing this kind of 24 hour SERVICE? In the past they haven't been particularly great at that... SO the question is-- in 6 months- if I switch to another OS, will I just be entering a set of numbers that I ALREADY HAVE??? ...Or- will I have to get a new set of numbers from E-on via TELEPHONE?...and will this be automatic, 24 hour service... or rely upon someone actually, in person, giving me these new numbers...?
I THINK that the MORE SPECIFIC E-on can be about EXACTLY how they intend to handle this- the more people like me will feel that they have a handle on it...E-on has been FAMOUS in the past for leaving these kinds of "petty details" until a bunch of S**T hit's the fan... I would like to KNOW that they have FULLY THOUGHT THIS THROUGH...and IF THEY HAVE...What is the scheme, and how does it work...
