Yep.  Potentiometers are "potential" problems.  Always get this with the guitar knobs at some point (crackling - or worse, bad contacts on the blades causing cutout).  Not afraid to mess with the electronics - I've replaced pickups, installed active circuitry, did a shielding overhaul for my Yngwie Strat  when I owned it- nice picking up truckers on that thing. ;)

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.
