Subject: Vue 6 Speed...

I see a lot of folks talking about performance increases with Vue 6... but I am not seeing it.. simple stuff that used to preview in seconds is now taking minutes... Already turned Open GL off and background redraw thread... what else can I do to speed this up and make it useful (again..)

thx/mes

Depends on what you are previewing.  Vue 6 has some new neat toys.  Spectral atmospheres and meta clouds look great, but they require a lot to render.  Compare Vue 6 with a normal atmosphere and I think you will find it faster.

Peggy's right here, don't use the new features if you want to compare with V5.

And check this out:

thx... my original test was with a spectaral environment, once I moved it to an old standard it ran fine... however, the interface is still very, very slow... moving cameras, etc... is painful... :)

I've been opening old V5I files in pre-release V6I and, without changing settings, get anywhere from 20% to 300% (yes 300) speed increases. When I switch to spectral atmosphere it sure does change the eqation, but not too terrible.

I really like the Spectral atmospere!

I have seen the same speed increases in the renders now that I have loaded a few old scenes up... is the interface slower for you... I can barely adjust the camera....  thx/mes

Could just be me (and my computer)...

I'm having an aweful time with the interface... can't even nail it down enough to submit the problem to e-on. As a work-around, I get everything as close to where I want it as possible in V5I, then do the final adjustments in V6I. Even then, strange things happen.... something that worked first try, stops working, for example.

Not complaining, tho. Just wish I could figure out how to report such randem stuff. Meselfr, what are you using for a graphics card?

meselfr ( ) posted Fri, 17 November 2006 at 6:35 PM

128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Windows XP Professional
3.2GH P4 with HT
2GB Memory

Mine's not random really... you use the widgets to control the camera x/y/z and it's so slow and jerky that you cannot use it...

thx/mes

Completely different card than I'm using... NVidea Quadro FX3400 here.  Guess we're having different problems. I turned the gizmos off, which helped some for me. Still, lots of strange behavior which all appears to be graphics related. But yes, slow and jerky is part of it.

My biggest wish right now is to be able to pan a view.  That's the main reason I'm using V5 to set things up.

Guys,  check your advanced camera options ( double click the main camera in the world browser), and check that: camera preview is off,  and see if you have enabled any post processing effect. If so, untick the boxes. You should only have one the films settings enabled. Close the window and see if the interface gets back to normal. If so, report the problem to e-on, this is supposed to be fixed.
