connie, this is just my take...you wanted opinions so here they are

-i was thinking of some light coming out of the door when i first saw this too, the light could really make or break this picture.
-the ground and background are so dark they blend into each other too much, something (shading/material) to break them apart.
-nice complimentary colors.
-i'm not super excited about the pose, but possibly with some shadows on the ground it could make it jump at me a little more, shadows from her and/or the surroundings.

overall, this is a good start.
