"Cancelling and restarting a cloth simulation can in some cases cause figures or props to show distorted geometry, and attempting to open a new file immediately after this occurs can cause problems. However, saving a copy of the file usually allows the simulation to be properly calculated and the effect disappears. Should a cloth simulation produce radically distorted geometry, don't panic! Save a copy of the file (just in case), then try deleting the simulation, recreating it and recalculating in the current file. That should give good results."
