Psst....Bone...you giving away our secrets dude....lol
I don't recall ever having been reprimanded either... I was "Locked Out" from the mods forum once way back when, but then again, so was "almost" every other staff member at the time.
I'd be curious to know what my member record says.... It's probably an ink blot, or reads like some cryptic , unrecognizable hieroglyphics, or something.
8 )
But I couldn't agree with you more Sir- Bones-allot.
There is a right way...and a wrong way to raise hell, and I usually have the wisdom to know the difference, but I have let myself come extremely close to that line before.
But...I think it might be more "Experience" rather than "Wisdom" though.
Us old timers have seen what pitfalls to avoid, and discovered (sometimes clever) workarounds for those areas over a period of several years. Some newer members ( who may have come from other sites, with different rules) may not know the pitfalls of Renderos-engard.
Although most things are covered in that ever-changing document we all lovingly know as the "TOS"...Who actually READS all of that before signing up?
I'd wager a few do,... but most only get around to it at they're leisure, or if they have been pointed to it for some reason.( And then only read that part of it)
I confess, I've only ready bits and pieces of the TOS here at Renderosity. (Hell... I helped Write the TOS at another site and if you think reading them is a yawn-fest...try writing one...lol)
Anyway....The TOS that exists now, is not the one I agreed to when I signed up, It's ,as I mentioned, "ever changing", and needs to be updated and modified as time (and technology) changes.
The staff usually make a good effort to let it be known when there is a modification of it. But in the end, it's MY responsibility to read, understand, and follow the guidelines outlined within it.
As far as images go...well..I don't post many images anymore so I'm pretty safe there.
I think it all comes down to common sense.
"If I post this potentially controversial image/post, what are the possible repercussions?"
If you are asking that question, there are several things you could do:
Alternatives to just throwing caution to the wind, and posting it are:
1)Send it to the staff first and ask if it falls within the acceptable image guidelines (TOS)
(If it does not, you have the option to modify it in such a way that it does fall within the acceptable image guidelines)
- Post it somewhere else that allows such imagery
- Get your own domain/ hosting (Website) and post it there. (And pay for all that is involved with this option)
- Do not post it at all, and savor all the joy of said masterpiece, and keep it to yourself.
- Delete it and never approach a commuter again...lol (That was joke...I say... that was a joke son...)
Are those guidelines blurry lines?
Yes, they can be for some, but clear as glass to others.(which this threadom clearly illustrates)
Which is why, if you are unsure....ASK!
Which of the following causes members as well as staff more problems?
To ask first?
Or
Beg for forgiveness later?
I'm thinking of changing my signature to:
"The Wise Man Learns from his mistakes.....The Wiser Man Learns from the mistakes of others"
Wow..this post went on way too long.
(Fortunately... I Keep my feathers numbered for...for just such an emergency)
