I've personally found the opposite to be the case. Lower polly clothing works the best for me. I converted a bunch of Koshini's clothing to Terrai Yuki 2 and Aiko 3 and it worked great. The P4 clothing for possette and dork also converted nicely.

When I try to convert newer higher density V3 outfits to other figures I get a huge amount of wrinkling and mangling.

Poser 7's new morph tools should help fix it though.
