There's a long way to go with this. :( I'm spinning some horrible spaghetti code. Anyone who's interested in "fighting the spaghetti" should, perhaps, try to take this basic idea and make of it something that works. Fight the spaghetti!

I should have a minor update later. The basic functions present in the initial post weren't working as well as I believed, but that seems to be fixed now, thanks to some helpful input from Ockham. So the script is currently pretty good at copying from a higher-res actor to a lower-res one. The trick is going to be working in the opposite direction. It's looking to me like the whole premise may need to be re-thought to approach that effectively....
