Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)

Subject: A suggestion to EVERYONE who makes replies in the forum.

PXP ( ) posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 2:37 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 5:27 AM

How many times have you looked through the threads in the Poser forum and seen something that interests you? So you open the thread and find that there are lot of replies in there from very helpful and interesting people?

You scroll through the list and see that some people are replying to other people and not the original poster. You became very confused because with so many messages, and some are broken up, nobody is saying who they are replying to, they all assume that you are going to know - sixth sense stuff?

Here's an idea and I didn't invent it so if you have a better solution please present it:

Why not start your reply with your forum name or whatever name you use plus the person your refering to e.g  Don to Victoria 3 or Stephanie replying to Micheal3 & Dave 3.
This way people will know if your answering them directly or at least you can find what message this refers to.

other forums include the name of the person being quoted at the beginning of the quote, perhaps this would be something useful to add to this forum in the next upgrade?

ps Lucifer to ziggie

have you got any choccie biccies instead of digestives?

@ everyone...
Why should I include my name every time? It's sitting there, right out loud, in the LH column, just above my avatar!
@ Ziggie: Like your bow-tie!
@ Doc: Hi Bob.
@ Miss Nancy: If you turned your purple flower 90 degrees in "X", would you helicopter up?

@ Last: I've run out of not-very-witty things to say.......

Actually, on the whole I agree with directing comments to specific "posters". OTOH, sometimes the thread just gets carried away into the fantasy-land and there's not a lot one can do about it. Human nature - it strives to be perverse.

A little more discipline would certainly make the forums esier to read and comprehend, but who wants more discipline? Not many that I know..

Cheers,
Diolma

I always thought that forum conversations follow the same rules as ordinary conversations? Unless one explicitly addresses someone explicitly, things usually are related to whatever was said last.

@Lucifer The Dark et al Quote: "perhaps this would be something useful to add to this forum in the next upgrade?" I had to go and lay down for 15 minutes after reading that, it gave me such a fright. I haven't recovered from the last site "upgrade" yet! One (of many) things I really miss from the old site, is that posts used to be numbered. You could say "Re post #15:".

You don't have to put your name in as geep quite rightly noted earlier:

quote: "*Wye dun't cha jus use dat li'l at thingie to sez who yuze is talkin' too, huh, huh, huh?"
"Lahk dis, @ da Doc  'Hay Doc win am Ah gunna git mah own malebox, huh, huh, huh?' "

*You can use the '@' symbol instead providing of course that the site script/programming doesn't ever interpret the symbol as a hyperlink which might mess up somewhere down the line.

As Geep said, your name is already shown in the  author column but it does help to make things really clear by putting it in your text, it stands out more.

That was a good test Miss Nancy because I was able to quickly go down the author list and see immediately that dwayne dibley and major tom aren't here and thats what this suggestion is all about its whats in this link and not outside of it and you helped me see that these folks do not exist in here.

Another point, most browsers have a find or search routine in the page so its very easy to find out if a name is here or not. For example I am using fire fox and in the edit menu there's an option that says 'Find in this page' I expect explorer has something similar. :)

Unlurks to shyly ask...

Um.  What exactly are digestives?

ziggie ( ) posted Mon, 08 January 2007 at 3:55 AM

@ DarkAngelGenesis:

they are a type of yummy crumbley biscuit (often chocolate coated... one side only) which are ideal for dunking in tea or coffee. But be warned..! You have to dunk and get out quick or you end up with a mug of sludge... which actually isn't all that bad to drink, but is a bugger to wash up if it dries out.

I don't think they are exclusive to UK. I have been to many parts of the World in my time and have always seen digestive biscuits.

Maybe they go under a different name and/or Brand name in other countries.

The major Brand that I am aware of is... McVities

A brief history of the Digestive can be found here....

www.mcvities.co.uk/80256C1A0047922E/vWeb/pcTSTT5EPGEC

Extract: Over 71 million packets of McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are eaten in the UK each year – that's an astounding 52 biscuits per second.

Thats true... but I can only get 4 in my mouth at the same time, so havn't quite reached the 52 a second stage yet.

Lucifer_The_Dark ( ) posted Mon, 08 January 2007 at 5:57 AM

McVities make some of the best biscuits I've ever stuffed myself with & Digestives will always be one of my favourites. I used to live a shortish walk from a McVities factory when I was younger & on a cold morning on my way to school if the wind was blowing in the right direction, well the smell was heavenly :D

Many moons ago, I lived in Blackpool and there was a biscuit factory there... Burtons I think... anyways... the factory caught fire and eventually all the goods from the warehouse were buried in a large bulldozed pit.

Naturally... no sooner had everyone left than a horde of us kids climbed the fence and dug up all the large retail tins of biscuits. It was funny... cos it was like long lines of lil ants all carrying off a pile of 4-5 tins.

There was nothing wrong with the majority of the biccies by the way... even those that were singed were still edible... certainly by us kids.

Depends what kind of coffee you're referring to.  If it's Turkish, then you'll have sludge on sludge.
