Do you have a link to the GM forum post you refer to? I'm looking around to see if I can figure out what's up on that.
BTW, as I mentioned above, we might need to end up storing a triangulated representation of the mesh, so while that would double the polygons, it would also make them uniformly 3 vertices each, so that might lend itself to the Numeric thing if that helps.
