Now Now Ricky, although Joe McCarthy is a tad infamous, he did work to protect the US from subversion by communist interests.  All be it he went over the line in the Senate Army hearings.  For more information regarding Joe McCarthy from a point of view that isn't blatantly hostile to him, read Ann Coulter's book: "Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism ".   She devotes a section to him and what he did.  I'm not putting this one out to debate here, but rather for people who want to read another side of McCarthy that has been kept out of the national debate.  Interesting read.

Plus he's an Appletonian like me, as well as Wilem Dafoe, and Harry Houdini (who has a nice museum there) and Edna Ferber (author).

Oh yeah, another Wisconsin first, Worlds first Residential Hydroelectric power grid.  Okay it was one house at first, Hearthstone, but still. :c)

Oh yeah, Appleton, WI is also home of the John Birch Society too.  They're even too right-wing for me on many things.
