Cheat a little :) 

Setup a background picture or photo. Then in the foreground use something  like RNDA's infinity cove ground or morphing rock outcrop.  In front of that stick a few clumps of grass - can help hide the feet as well if your figure isn't standing right. 

The picture heres shows that kinda effect and took less than 10 minutes to setup.
