Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
honestly i don't think it was that easy. its like watching someone do a 20 minute "make a human in C4D or Maya" It looks easy... till you try it.
I do like the concept though.
What I would like to see in Poser is the ability to morph to different shapes independently of the source or target geometry. So a 1,000 poly ball can be made into a morph for a 50,000 POLY face. (You get the idea)
Perhaps something for the Poser 11 wish list. :)
A form of character creator wizard where you start off with a very high density mesh that you could sculpt and texturize using photographs as reference, which would then have its polygon count reduced after the users wishes.
That "Automatic matching" function would be quite helpful. Has any ever managed to use the Poser "Photo Lineup" function successfully?

I found a link... a pretty interesting read. I just hope the technique will some day make it's way into a consumer 3D-application.Attached Link: FaceGen site
Ever checkout FaceGen Modeller? Gives pretty good results. Exports base OBJ, textures, and morph targets. Requires some additional work welding the head mesh to the Poser body though. Used it to make my avatar from a photo.Good call Bomac.
I've been using FaceGen on and off for quite a while.
It's unfortunate that the resulting meshes are low-poly and the textures low-res. Still, it's a great place to start.
I've just started dropping FaceGen meshes into ZBrush for upscaling and detailing, which could lead to some pretty decent models in a short amount of time.
If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominos will fall like a house of cards...checkmate!
Sorry for the delay (I forgot about this thread).
I've since dropped ZBrush and picked up Mudbox instead, which I find sooooo much easier to use.
I'm currently working on a mesh that I'll hopefully upload a WIP image of soon. It's my daughter's first birthday this week, so things have been a little hectic!

Interesting timing on this message. I just purchased ZBrush today. Can't install yet. It won't accept the POP (Proof Of Purchase) code delivered with the product. Hmmmm.
Looking fwd to a peek at the WIP.
Congrats on your daughters B-Day! BTW, Wait a few years and see if you still think things are hectic now. I've got three (3) daughters.
onetime, way before I started posering, I had this program that would allow you to input pictures, a profile and a portrait, and plot the points of each photo. The program would then use the outllines that you had provided to make a 3d model. Asymetry was alowed, and the program got pretty darned close. You could add lines any time, in any place to model wrinkles and ridges. It worked for animals with a head that had all the basic human headparts (I don't think you could have done a worm, or anything like that). It was cool, but pretty useless for someone who had no knowlege of other 3d programs. So I got rid of it. Now I can't remember what it was, and it was totally the collest thing ever! Something like that, if it could work with G2 and Millenium figures, would be preceless to me now. THAT's how the poser faceroom should work.
bomac, How exactly would one go about "welding" a facegen head to a v3 body, say for instance if some idiot had bought facegen not realizing you couldn't just swap heads, and wound up having to parent the head obj and make the orig. head not visible. Can a "real" figure be made of the two. thanks, mitafax (new name: idiotboy)
Quote - Actually that is how the face room tech basically works.
If you mean Face Room can use a frontal and profile photo to generate a head mesh like Face Gen can, I would agree.
If you mean Face Room can take a mesh generated by FaceGen and weld it to a Poser figure, I'm unsure about that. Perhaps someone more knowledgable than me can field this one.

The face room was based on Face Gen. Well it was a custom plugin by the face gen people.
The two weren't meant to be cross compatiblem but they use the same data.

FaceGen is pretty neat, a version of their engine is integrated into a few game game products (notably Bethesda's Elder Scrolls: Oblivion).

I don't know if you have seen this, but isn't this exactly how Posers face room is supposed to work (but doesn't)?
