Subject: Installing V6I upgrade means you are no longer allowed to use V5I

Ajax ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 4:14 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 2:39 AM

I just upgraded from Vue 5 Infinite to Vue 6 Infinite.  Right at the end of the process, with no prior warning and too late for me to back out of installing the upgrade, a message popped up to tell me that with the Vu6 I upgrade installed I would no longer be allowed to use my old Vue 5 Infinite.

If you're thinking of upgrading, you might want to keep in mind that you'll be restricted to using the buggy pre-release and won't be allowed to go back to your old verion 5 to finish a project when you need to.

I am using Vue 4 Pro, Vue 5 Inf and Vue 6 inf on the same computer.
Did you show vue 5 a path to a different folder or to the Vue 5 install.   This is the first time I have ever heard of this.
I am running 3 version of poser on my computer also.  Something is not right unless e-on had changed something since I got Vue 6 Inf.

I've not heard of this happening before.  I've got Vue 4, Vue 4 Pro, Vue 5 Infinite and Vue 6 Infinite on my PC and all of them work.  You should report this to e-on's techs at their web site so they can address whatever caused it to happen.

Ditto the above - this didn't happen to me either.

Same here....all my Vues are running just fine. 2,4,5, and 6.  Gotta be a glitch....

Wonder if thats something thats crept into the latest version, cos I didn't get that message and I got my V6i on about November 30 (right on the last day of the first prerelease deadline).

maybe everyone doesn't know yet that there is a brand new update for vue 6 at the eon website (which I haven't installed yet as I was waiting to see what would happen to others). Love esther

No problem here either using other Vue versions.
The only thing is by upgrading to Vue 6, you will not be able to resell Vue6, since it's an upgrade from Vue5. But that's it.

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 7:47 PM

I haven't seen this either.  Not that I want to go back, but it has never been that way through all the upgrades I have done.  Have you tried to use Vue 5 since you installed 6?

I didn't get that message when I installed the upgrade. And the upgrade has improved my texture imports into vue 6 but not all props come in. Love esther

I've tried using Vue 5 I and it still seems to work - there was just the message.  I mentioned it to my contact at Cornucopia and she said she'd never heard of it and would talk to someone at e-on about it and see what the deal was.  I wish I'd kept a screenshot of the message.

I get the same message as Ajax, warning that I cannot use V5I (though curiously I saw this message before the installing latest upgrade; was also prompted to re-authorize the software which I thought was equally odd). I have created and rendered scenes in V5I and V6X with no problems.

So it looks to me that once you've installed V6, a V5 render is a violation of the EULA rather than a technical limitation.

iloco ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 2:28 PM

I have used a lot of my vue 5 Inf scenes in Vue 6 Inf and have yet to get this warning message. :)

Same, here iloco, never seen this one.

The message only appears during installation of the upgrade - it doesn't have anything to do with using vue 5 Inf scenes in Vue 6 Inf, so I'm not surprised you don't see it when you do that.

I've now heard back from e-on.  Apparently the intention of the message is that you aren't allowed to do something like sell your old V5I to somebody while continuing to use your V6I upgrade yourself, or have one person using your old V5I on one computer while you use the V6I upgrade on another one.  It was apparently not the intention for of the message to imply that you couldn't continue to use both apps on the one computer.  The wording didn't look that way, but apparently that's what's going on.

Weird that a lot never see it and a couple do.  I am baffled. :)

Well, it only happens the very first time you upgrade your Vue Infinite from 5 to 6 (that's upgrade, not update - so not those little update patches that get released all the time) so each person would only get one chance to see it.  On top of that, it may only be one particular build that does it, so if you did your upgrade with a different build (say one of the earlier ones) then you would never ever see it.

I installed the recent update, and for some reason I had to 're-Activate' my Vue-6 Infinite install. So, I was able to do it successfully, but then I got the exact same message regarding not using Vue5 because this is an update. Strange. In anycase, Vue 5-I still works fine-- which is good because I have a lot of models I need to create in Vue5 this weekend.

I updated a couple of days ago and also got this message. I was also worried about this message as V6I is still buggy. However, I could still use V5I after the update but felt uneasy doing so because of that message. I'm pleased to have clarification about what it meant because I too took it to mean I couldn't use V5I legally anymore.

I'm curious about how much it cost for the first prerelease upgrade ( from V5i to V6i ) before November 30, 2006.
Could anybody tell me?
