I think I know what you did wrong.
Go to the wireframe.
Click the + icon on the bottom right of the GUI. to bring your scene closer.
You might want to do this a couple of times.

Then use the arrows above the big render button to push your scene further away to give you your desired perspective.
Now render.
Things should be back to normal, but sometimes it's trial and error.
