Subject: What do you think of the Particles 3/PZ that was advertised in Daz

jhustead ( ) posted Wed, 31 January 2007 at 12:54 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 12:04 PM

I'm asking because it looks like it's capable of producing some cool looking effects like fog, fire, and smoke. In any of you own it or know somebody that does own this plug-in let me know please. Because I would like to see the outcome of how exactly this product is advertised to work. Here's the link if you don't know what I'm talking about: http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=4913&trid=889365333

Thanks,

James

I've been after it since version 2 but always find something else to spend on first [LOL].
I've heard it's not that easy to use initially and has a reasonable learning curve, although from reading the latest version some enhancements have been added to make it's use easier!

My own view, which isn't based on knowledge of the application is, if you can use dynamics and have an understanding of animation, you can prolly use this without too much difficulty!!

I looked into it also, and am on the edge to learn and purchase it, but more for stills.  Got to go look more into it.  Sharen

I agree with both of you. It seems like none of us wants to be the first one that charge it to the credit card. We are all looking for someone else's outcome with the product first. Too bad there isn't a review service like there is for cars and computers that will give us an unbiased opinion of the pros and cons of each product.

Actually, it isn't that difficult to learn.  The Poseworks site has a number of tutorials (which, you may want to check out prior to purchasing) that help you pick it up.  It can create some really astounding looking effects.  And, if you are into animation, all can be animated - rolling fog, clouds, gun muzzle blast, etc.  I think it is well worth the money.  But, check out the tuts first.

Thanx for the heads up, I'll check them out when I get home!!

actually, i used particles 2.0  pretty much without looking at tuts.  the main thing i needed to look up was workflow (where to start, what to do second, etc.).  it probably would have helped me to look at info about the settings, but without it i was able to do what i wanted.  a couple of things that might not be obvious: first off, it's advertised for special efffects but can be used for more.  unless this function has been cut, it can use any obj file and distribute it around your scene.  so not only can it do the work of a fog effects tool and a fire effects tool, it can do the work of a scatter tool. second, it generates a figure with different body parts that are each "particle" (textured object).  each body part is transformable.  so you can tweak your cloud or what have you after it's generated.   and once you've made that figure, you can just save it if you want.  so if you wanted to bring it into some other program, you could.

the thing i really thought was amazing about particles 2.0 was the material gradients.  i mean, it's obvious, looking at it, that it can do that, but it still impresses me.  the ability to distribute color along several different pieces with separate materials is just really cool, imho.

I used the free beta that was available up til yesterday.  Quite cool, not much of a resourse hog but very cool effects all the same,

Hello I have bought yesterday. This time i want to use tutorial and take time to understand the way to use the scripts and all the prop-caracters . Particules  seems to more complicated than other fx i have used .With Particule2 i must admit i have only use presets but it was good for some effects See the fire in this picture

I bought it Wednesday, and used one of the "pre-fab" ready made effects  It rendered out beautifully and was simple to add to the scene.  I have Particles 2 and never knew there were tutorials for it, it was extremely simple to use.  This looks a bit more daunting, but, well worth the learning curve for an added punch to the final image.

If I can create something half way acceptable to me, I'll post it later today. :tongue2:

martial: Cool looking fire in the background. Was all of that done with the Particles product? I'd like to see some more of your visual effects that can be achieved with Particles 3 if you don't mind.

I went over to some different web sites looking for a tutorial for this Particles product, but I couldn't find any tutorials anywhere. Can one of you point me in the right direction with a link? It would be appreciated.
