Well, fazzbazz.  Rosity, I hate your time limits and your response editor.  Hate to bite the hand that feeds me, but it's the truth.  :(

A couple of errors in the above.  Spanki, I noticed your explanation about concave polys, after I posted.  Presumably there can't be concave tris?  Or could those normals still point backwards, tris or no?  Hmm.  If tris can't be concave, the error I encountered has another cause, because I was working with our triangles.
