Subject: Fulfilling a promise : Canvas chair

bopperthijs ( ) posted Tue, 13 February 2007 at 3:36 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 1:48 AM

Some weeks (months?) ago I promised someone to make a model of a canvas chair after an image of Gil Elvgren. Because lack of time and because I wasn't quite satisfied with it, I never finished it . There was also another guy who also made a model so I thought it wasn't that necessary. But I still wanted to finish it and last weekend, I did had some time to do the job. I have redone the original model: The one I  first  made was copied of a foldable model I had in my shed. I found some old pictures with examples of the same but rigid chair. Those ones were much wider than my example, so I remodelled the whole thing. The model came out quite nice and I wanted and I wanted to make  a dynamic model of it in Poser. The first attempts were quite disastrous: I made a rigid part: the frame and a dynamic part: the seat, I set-up the simulation in the cloth-room, but everytime Vicky dropped her fat bum in it, the whole  seat exploded which was quite amusing to see but not my real intention. I did some research and after reading the flag-cloth tutorial of Serge Marck I learned that to make a figure of it. I did so in the setup room, making two bodyparts with some unused bones. After that I tried the simulation again and I finally succeeded with an im"press"ive result. After some finetuning and texturing the model is ready, I only have to write a "howto"manual. and then I will post it as a freebie in the next two days. I'm so pleased with the result that I'm thinking of making more of these rigid-dynamic models : Anyone interested in a hammock?

Next post is a sample....

Whoa.... that is awesome. Is that a poser rendered v4 image?

bopperthijs ( ) posted Tue, 13 February 2007 at 3:58 PM

No, actually it's V3 with some morphs.

Actually bopporjis I posted the Elvgren pic and made the request. The whole idea of the canvas being dynamic intrigued me from the start. Please let me know when it is ready.

This looks really stunning with the V3 model in it. I'd love a copy of the hammock too.

Thanks for your generosity.

Very interesting! :thumbupboth:
I was always wondering if cloth room can make things like that but never made any test!
Please share that "howto"
So this is something like a hybrid figure with dynamic body-parts or dynamic parented props?

Since I don't use dynamics, DAZ Studio user here, I would just use a d-Former magnet to pull the bottom down to accommodate the bum area!!  😉  I noticed that the "canvas" is riding up her bum a bit and canvas is just not going to do that, it's a thicker material with allot less bend than say... silk!!

I've just uploaded the chair, and after approval it will be soon in the freebie-sector (I hope)

@Ramwolf: II used a linnen simulationsetting, which is actually rather heavy, but I think the pose is rather extreem, so that's why you see the bum shape, but when sit in that chair, you really see some shape, the canvas is not that thick. If you want I can make a morphing chair as well, cause you can spawn the result of the clothroom as a morph, but that'll have to wait a little.

I think you can call this a hybrid figure, cause it has a dynamic part, but the rigid part is not "conforming", so it's not the same as hybrid clothing.

Hmmmm, OK, perhaps I'm wrong then.  Looking forward to the release! 😄

Sure does take Rosity a long time to put something in Free Stuff. Maybe you should also upload it somewhere else too because there was an antique gas station that I know of that was sent to the marketplace over a month ago and it never did get put in but at least I was able to purchase it at another site. It's a very good model too so don't know what the problem was here.

bopperthijs ( ) posted Wed, 14 February 2007 at 5:44 PM

I useally don't have much problems with my uploads, but I haven't seen it yet. They say within 48 hours, mostly it is shorter than that. I must say that I don't know of another place to post it , perhaps 3D-commune, but I haven't did that before.

Thijs

Alot of people post freebies and store items at 3d Commune as well as here but get put in their free stuff and store alot faster. It's just another option for people to share their creations.

LOL, I'm the other guy, and I haven't done any more work on mine, partly because I knew you were also working on one. The conforming seat looks really good, I'll have to have a good look at how it works, I hardly know anything about conforming stuff.

Good job.
