...or better yet, keep the xpolys array around until you've built the vertex region list for the new actor... and when building that list, only include vertices where xpolys[n] == -1. Or something like that.
I'd also just use the bounding box of the target mesh (plus some expansion), since we only need to catch the polys of the new source mesh near the edge of the original target mesh.
