...To this.

In the interest of changing my identity.

Do you think anyone will know it is still me?

who's the picture of?  I'm not seeing any resemblance to your current avatar.
However, my current one looks exactly like me :)

Oh well..perhaps I've passed that point of no return.
Maybe the "Pole Dancing" avatar is a better solution.

No?

"hey! have you nicked Roberto Baggio's ponytail in that new avatar?"

Uhh....Yeah..that's what I did... (Hey...His identity is as good as any other right?)

For real...That was all mine..in fact..It got down to past the middle of my back..

One Day...I caught my reflection in the glass at the bank...and said..."Y'no?..I've had this hair long enough"

I walked a few stores down to the "Great Clips"..Walked in..and said "How much?"

The gals behind the counter looked at each-other in a "We've Struck Gold" kinda way.

As it turned out..I more than qualified, to "Donate" my hair to "The Locks Of Love" foundation (They make wigs for those suffering from Cancer)

So..in exchange for my "Donation"...They said they would cut it for FREE.

To qualify..it had to be 10 inches and "No Gray Hair" (Evidently..Gray Hair doesn't take the dye as well)

Mine was almost 16 inches by then, and luckily..My Gray hair is around my temples.

I had to walk outside and smoke a cigarette and think about it...I mean...It had been about over 5 years since I'd seen the inside of a salon.

I crushed the Cigarette out half way,I walked back in and said "Do it"

One operator tied it off with a rubber-band, and held a zip-lock bag, while the other( Anna) got out the BIG scissors and in one fell swoop...It was gone.

It wasn't planned, It wasn't like I struggled over time about getting it cut, or needed to cut it for a job, or even knew when I awoke that morning.

It was Like "Today's the Day"..and that was it.

That Operator..(Anna).Is "The Only" person I'll let cut my hair to this day.

I'd forgotten that Hair-cuts cost money...Had I remembered..I may have reconsidered....lol (Kidding)

At least now..it doesn't take hours to dry.

Tom.

vince3 ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2007 at 7:08 AM

i grew my hair back in the Guns n' Roses days, but it was always too fluffy loose, so i had to tie it in a ponytail too, always walked about thinking i looked cool until i overhear a little kid turn to their mother and say " mummy, why has that man got lady hair" (happened so many times) that and with my mates constantly making tribal "blow-dart" sound effects, every time i was walking in front of them, made me cut mine off.

i still, despite having semi short hair now, find myself still doing that "hairflick" thing( sudden head jerk) that you do with long hair when you get a hair over your eye, or it feels weird. That never went away for some reason.

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2007 at 7:23 AM

Yeah..It's kinda like "Phantom Hair". not unlike those who have lost limbs, still feel them.

I went though that for a few months... like taking showers and suddenly realizing,,,I don't need that much Shampoo anymore.

I actually had the inverse reaction from others though... It was like "Damn... I wish I had hair like that" or""Your hair is beautiful"...maybe it's a "timing" thing..

When it's in...It's IN...but when it's out...it's OUT...lol

Only requirement from work at the time was "Keep it in a Ponytail"

I'd walk into work...off hours...with my hair down,...to pick up a check or something..and would walk right past those who saw me daily..and they wouldn't even recognize me...

The first time I  walked back to the Cash Office, to get my check(Personnel Only) I was stopped by the manager that hired me,and saw me every day.

"Uh...Can I help you Sir?"

"The second one is almost scarier."

Actually...It's been a couple of years now and I've been entertaining the thought of letting it grow out again. (Hey..in 5 years I get a free Hair-cut...Right?)

It's that awkward "Transitional Stage" that One needs to get past.

Y'no...that stretch of time between "Short and manageable" and "Long, and..uh..pony-tail-able".

Once ya get past that stage...It's all good-inda-hood. (Literally...lol)

Hey...and then I could start Pole dancing again...How's that for motivation...Eh?....Eh?

When I met Sharon (who is now my wife) some years ago, I had hair down the middle of my back, my beard was full and bushy, I wore big ol' comfy harness boots, had big dangly sterling silver earrings and other such jewelry, and every piece of clothing I owned was either black, white, or blue (in deference to my color blindness).

In short order, the hair went, the boots went, I got all new clothes, switched the dangly silver feather earrings for a gold loop and jeweled stud, started wearing new cologne, and the beard got cut back to a goatee.

She never insisted that I change anything, it just somehow seemed like a good idea to update my appearance when she said it. 😄

As for your avatar, Tom, as long as it's something we can animate from time to time, go for it.

man you changed a lot there Tom! i think your second picture looks like when they are talking to astronauts on the phone, during news programmes, sometimes they show a photo of the astronaut  they are talking to, that picture was obviously from your fighter pilot days.

I will leave this space open here(             ) for anyone who wants to put a second photo=spaceman, first photo=spaced-out man type gag, but i won't sink that low myself.

Captain jack i used to only wear black, white or blue aswell and big para boots, i've still got holes in my lobes but i haven't had an earing for at least ten years!!! i also used to collect shiny stuff to tie around my arms, nothing was safe from being added to my arms, even the chain on the pen, in the bank found it's way onto my arm! i am glad i never lost the key to the padlocked chains though!! i think only Mr.T wore more chains than me back then. My current Strat' is the only one that hasn't ended up with chains-on-arms based scratches all over it.

Don't Worry Cap'n...I'll be sure to make any new avatar easy to tear apart and animate.

That 2nd picture was taken outside a Metro Station (Subway) in Washington DC.

I'd gone back on a business trip to my old stompin grounds..met up with some old friends and one of-em took that pic.

Yeah Kirk...Rub it in  man...lol

Hell your hair was longer than mine ever got back when we met in San Diego...what...4 or 5 years ago?

I'm surprised  you're not tripping over it by now...lol

Nah, I've always kept it at about that length you saw. Even that is a pain sometimes. It'll get chopped and donated one day.

Still waiting for shaved head pics from JenX...

Hawkfyr - holy smokes you've changed things up!

Mine used ot be past my shoulder blades but coaching kids gymnastics (with the blonde hair and beard, they nicknamed me the Viking Coach) left me with clumpy chalk in my hair every night - been pretty close shaved ever since. The woman who first cut it (from below shoulder blades to buzz) almost cried!
